The electrical current is the same as in the US, 110 volts, 60 cycle AC.
Drinking Water
The water is quite safe in the BVI, using a very effective reverse osmosis (salt water conversion). Our villa has its own cistern which is safe, however if you have doubts, bottled water is widely available.
Time Zone
The time zone is Atlantic Standard Time, one hour later than US Eastern Standard time. However, AST and EST become the same during the months of Daylight Saving time, because this East Coast practice is not observed in the islands.

Getting Married on Virgin Gorda
Getting married in the British Virgin Islands is relatively simple and can be arranged fairly quickly if you are only in the BVI for a short period of time.
You need to apply for a license by purchasing $110 in stamps from the local post office, then present the stamps to The Registrar's Office located at the Government Administration Office about a five minute walk from the Road Town Ferry Dock, where you will then fill out the necessary forms.
You will need two witnesses to sign the application
You will also need a passport and if applicable, a divorce decree or death certificate.
The application will take three days to process.
If you want to be married by the Registrar, she can be booked prior to your arrival by calling the office ahead of time however, the application for the ceremony can only be made after your licence has been granted.
The Registrar is based in Road Town so if you wish the ceremony to be held there - there is a fee of $35 or if you wish to be married on Virgin Gorda - the fee is $100 + transportation costs.
If you plan on being married in a local church, please contact the minister or priest for the requirements.
For further information as well as complete requirements and documentation for getting married in the BVI, contact Registrar's Office at (284) 468-3701
